German Association for Art History kunstgeschichte.org

As part of the development of the corporate design for the German Association for Art History, we also redesigned the association’s website. The goal was to create a new design system that improves navigation and content structure and guides users well across different device sizes.

Starting point was the redesign of the page navigation, which we enhanced with modern markup and CSS for desktop and mobile devices, supplemented by only a minimum of JavaScript. This was followed by a redesign of the homepage with a focus on developing a new system for displaying feature articles. Finally, we revised the design of the text layout with numerous layout components for flexible content presentation.

A key focus of our work was improving page performance: the existing site was particularly slow due to heavy use of JavaScript and large, unoptimized images. Through the redesign, we were able to reduce the weight of the site from 5 to 10 megabytes per request to just a few hundred kilobytes.

The implementation in and optimization of the existing WordPress CMS was carried out by Daniel Kotkiewitz and Pausanio.
